Anxiety Counselling

Symptoms may include fear of specific places or situations, fear of meeting or being judged by new people, low self esteem or self confidence, recurring memories, and other signs of post-traumatic stress disorder

Anxiety can be a common part of day to day life. Because we are told to expect at least a degree of anxiety in our life, we may think that we should always be able to handle it, and can feel guilty when we find that things are getting too much.

This can be where the problems start. Unchecked, anxiety can take over our lives, as its effect spreads out from its original cause, leaving us feeling irritable, tense, nervous, uptight or wound up, while it invades more aspects of our daily life. The vicious circle of anxiety can lead to it becoming a long-term condition.

The symptoms of anxiety include such things as fear of specific places or situations, fear of meeting or being judged by new people, low self esteem or self confidence, recurring memories, and other signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. This is not a definitive list however, and often the causes of anxiety can be unknown to us.

Anxiety can also manifest itself in forms including panic attacks, phobias such as agoraphobia, and claustrophobia, OCD, shortness of breath and palpitations. We all respond in different ways, and sometimes our bodies may be responding to anxiety that we don’t realise we have.

Whether you have a sense of anxiety, or are displaying symptoms or behaviour that suggest undiagnosed anxiety, therapy can help tackle the problem at its roots. As an integrative psychotherapist, I offer a range of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Relaxation and Behaviour Therapy.

At an initial meeting, I will talk to you about your needs, give you a chance to get a feel of how I work and decide on the individual therapy of combination of therapies you feel will be suitable for you. There is no set minimum or maximum number of sessions you have to agree to, and there is ongoing review to ensure that sessions are productive and help you move forward to control your anxiety.

My fees are based on an ethical position of not wishing money to be a barrier to therapy so there is a fee scale guideline depending on your income and you place yourself at the level of your income.
